Marmaton Valley USD 256 Title I Parent Involvement Policy

by Ken McWhirter

June 22, 2010

In order to meet the requirements of the No Child Left Behind of the Reauthorization of Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 2001 (PL 107-110) the following activities will be implemented in the Marmaton Valley U.S.D. #256 effective October 13, 2003.

It is the district’s belief that all students should be provided with the opportunity to learn and that the districts committed to provide an educational environment that promotes the maximum mental, physical, and social development of each individual student.  It is also the belief that all parents are vital stakeholders in the education of their child and are encouraged to participate in developing the educational goals of the district.

In addition to the annual public meeting in which all parents or Title I students and any interested parent are invited for the purpose of discussing the Title I program, informing parents of their right to consult in the design and implementation of Title I projects, solicit parents’ input and provide parents an opportunity to establish mechanisms for maintaining ongoing communication among parents, teachers, and local officials, the following activities shall be conducted:

  1.  List all Title I personnel and their qualifications,
  2. Solicit input on budget matters and expenditures,
  3. Notify each child’s parent in a timely manner if their child qualifies for Title I services and the reason for qualification,
  4. Inform each child’s parent of the curriculum, assessments given, expected level of achievement, and the results and interpretations,
  5. Solicit parents’ suggestions in the planning, development, and operation of the Title I program,
  6. Timely response to any recommendation or communication of any parent,
  7. Provide information on the coordination with any other federal program, and
  8. Hold an annual evaluation on the content and effectiveness of the Title I program.

Any Questions or comments may be directed to Ken McWhirter, Title I Coordinator, Marmaton Valley Elementary, 128 West Oak, Moran, KS 66755.

Approved by the Marmaton Valley U.S.D. #256 Board of Education on March 8, 2010.
