Title I - Parent's Right To Know

by Ken McWhirter

June 22, 2010

As a parent of a Title I student, you have certain rights in regards to your child and the Title I program.  These rights were established by federal and state laws and are available to you upon request.  A summary of your rights is outlined below.

  1. Parents may request information regarding the professional qualifications of the student’s classroom teachers including, at a minimum, the following:

    1. Whether the teacher has met the state qualifications and licensing criteria for the grades and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction.
    2. Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which state qualifications or licensing criteria have been waived.
    3. The baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree.
    4. Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessional and if so their qualifications.

  1. Other information as requested:

  1. Information on the level of achievement of the parent’s child in each of the state academic assessment as required under this part; and
  2. Timely notice that the parent’s child has been assigned, or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified.

If you have any questions or comments they may be directed to Ken McWhirter, Title I Coordinator, 128 West Oak, Moran, KS 66755.
