As a parent of a Title I student, you have certain rights in regards to your child and the Title I program. These rights were established by federal and state laws and are available to you upon request. A summary of your rights is outlined below.
- Parents may request information regarding the professional qualifications of the student’s classroom teachers including, at a minimum, the following:
-
- Whether the teacher has met the state qualifications and licensing criteria for the grades and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction.
- Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which state qualifications or licensing criteria have been waived.
- The baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree.
- Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessional and if so their qualifications.
- Other information as requested:
- Information on the level of achievement of the parent’s child in each of the state academic assessment as required under this part; and
- Timely notice that the parent’s child has been assigned, or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified.
If you have any questions or comments they may be directed to Ken McWhirter, Title I Coordinator, 128 West Oak, Moran, KS 66755.
