FORENSICS WINS LEAGUE TITLE

    The Marmaton Valley Forensics Team placed first at the Three Rivers League forensics tournament Saturday, Feb. 20, at Chetopa.  The MV team accumulated 214 points, followed by Uniontown with 150 points, and Oswego with 100 points.
    Nineteen of the team’s 21 entries qualified for the final round.  Those students earning medals were Kassandra Turner, first, informative speaking and poetry; Morgan Henry, first, prose interpretation; Amie Beggs, first, humorous solo acting; Becca Maxey, first, oratory speaking; Molly McEwan, first, serious solo acting.  In the duet acting event Kurtis LaRue and Cody Knight placed first; Lindsey McMurray and Becca Maxey, fourth; and Mercedes Trollope and Maggie Mewies, sixth.
    Other medals earned were Halie Luken, second, oratory speaking; fifth, poetry; LaRue, second, humorous solo acting; McMurray, second, serious solo acting; Hollie Sparks, third, extemporaneous speaking; Melanie Henderson, fourth, extemporaneous speaking; fifth, informative speaking; Meiwes, fifth, serious solo acting; Kailey Boyd, fifth, oratory speaking; and Nathan Smart, prose interpretation.
    The one-act play cast placed second in Friday’s league competition held at Allen Community College.  Members of the cast are LaRue, Turner, Knight, Luken, Henry, Trollope, Beggs and McEwan.
    Ten events have now qualified for the state championship competition in Wichita May 1.
