Call to Order The regular monthly meeting of the USD #256 Board of Education was called to order by President, Patti Boyd, in the district office on Monday evening, June 8, 2009, at 8:08 p.m.
Members Present Members present were Patti Boyd, Judi Knight, Melvin Bland, Bob Rhodes, and Brenda Swanson. Also present were Nancy Meyer, Ken McWhirter, Jeremy Boldra, and Sherry Henry.
Consent Agenda Bob Rhodes moved to approve the June consent agenda items a-c as presented with the additions to the agenda of VII. c. Supplementals and VI. i. Mill Levy. Brenda Swanson seconded the motion, and it carried 5 – 0.
Audiences There were no audiences.
Steve Becker arrived at the meeting at 8:17 p.m.
Reports The superintendent and principals gave their respective reports.
Judi Knight reported on the ANW Special Education Cooperative.
Brenda Swanson gave a food service committee report.
Bus Bids The bus bids from the previous meeting were reviewed and the consensus was to forgo ordering a bus this year.
Negotiations Brenda Swanson moved to ratify the 2009-10 PNA as presented. Judi Knight seconded the motion, and it carried 6 – 0.
District Insurance Judi Knight moved to purchase district insurance from PSI for 2009-10. Melvin Bland seconded the motion, and it carried 6 – 0.
Budget Completion Steve Becker moved the office complete the 2008-09 budget with the necessary transfers. Melvin Bland seconded the motion, and it carried 6 – 0.
Member Resignation Bob Rhodes moved to accept Becca Plaschka’s resignation as board member for position 1. Brenda Swanson seconded the motion, and it carried 6 – 0.
Marketing MV Schools A flyer promoting Marmaton Valley was discussed.
Personnel Bob Rhodes moved to go into executive session for 9 minutes at 9:51 p.m. to discuss non-elected personnel with Nancy Meyer, Ken McWhirter, and Jeremy Boldra also present. Brenda Swanson seconded the motion, and it carried 6 – 0.
The board returned to open session at 10:00 p.m.
Bob Rhodes moved to hire Elizabeth Hopkins as SH Cheerleading Sponsor, Dave Sager as JH Head Boys BB Coach, Stephen Smith as JH Asst. Boys BB Coach, and Chase Ermel as SH Asst. Boys BB Coach. Judi Knight seconded the motion, and it carried 6-0.
Judi Knight moved to go into executive session for 5 minutes at 10:04 p.m. to discuss non-elected personnel with Nancy Meyer, Ken McWhirter, and Jeremy Boldra also present. Brenda Swanson seconded the motion, and it carried 6 – 0.
The board returned to open session at 10:09 p.m.
Jeremy Boldra left the meeting at 10:15 p.m.
Tour Review The facilities tour was discussed.
HS Carpeting Carpeting for the HS hallway was discussed.
Mill Levy Discussion of the mill levy was held.
Personnel Steve Becker moved to hire Darci Gulick as MASH Summer Instructor. Melvin Bland seconded the motion, and it carried 6 – 0.
Brenda Swanson moved to go into executive session for 10 minutes at 10:52 p.m. to discuss non-elected personnel with Nancy Meyer and Ken McWhirter also present. Bob Rhodes seconded the motion, and it carried 6 – 0.
The board returned to open session at 11:02 p.m.
Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 11:15 p.m.
